Preschool Intakes at Jamestown Community Children’s Centre
Your child is entitled to access 4 terms (1 year) of government preschool in the year before they start school. At Jamestown Community Children’s Centre, we offer both 4-year-old preschool and universal 3-year-old preschool (beginning in 2026).
4-Year-Old Preschool
Children who turn 4 years old:
- Before 1 May: Can start preschool at the beginning of the school year.
- 1 May to 31 October: Can start preschool at the mid-year intake (start of Term 3).
- After 31 October: Can start preschool at the start of the following year.
Children will attend 4 terms of preschool, regardless of their intake date.
3-Year-Old Preschool (From 2026)
From 2026, children can attend universal 3-year-old preschool at our service after their third birthday, not before. There are 6 intake points throughout the year, depending on your child’s birthday and when they are eligible to start school.
Registrations of Interest (ROI) are now open for children to start universal 3-year-old preschool in 2026. Please request an ROI form from the preschool and return it with completed details.
Choosing the Best Start
If you are unsure about the best time for your child to start preschool—either at 3 or 4 years old—or feel your child may benefit from starting later, please talk to us about your options. Our team is always available to support you in making the best decision for your child’s learning journey.
Early entry
Aboriginal children and children who are or have been in care are eligible for 15 hours of preschool a week after they turn 3, continuing until they start school.
Enrolling your child
You can register your interest to enrol your child with us by using the preschool registration of interest form. This form is also available from us.
You can register at any time during the year.
Priority will be given to children living in our catchment area. If you don’t live in our catchment area you should indicate at least 2 other preschool options on your form.
